Dear comrades,

on the eve of the Day of the Shining Star I have sad responsibility to inform you that the honorary chairman of the Paektusan Czech-Korean Friendship Association comrade Jiří Jarka passed away suddenly on February 7, Juche 107 (2018) at the age of 88.

Comrade Jarka was co-founder of the Paektusan Czech-Korean Friendship Association (registered by the Ministry of interior of the Czech republic in 1999), its former chairman, later honorary chairman.

He was born on April 15, 1929 (the Day of the Sun). He served as a pilot of the Czechoslovak People’s Army and reached the rank of Major. In the second half of the 1980s he served as the military attaché of the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic in the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea. He was a longtime member of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia and a holder of several high state decorations of the DPRK.

His opinions and statements were quoted by KCNA several times.

We appriciate his exploits made for the Paektusan Association and for the better tomorrow of us all.

His funeral took place on February 14 in Prague. His bandes of honor were exhibited and the state anthem of the Czech Republic was played. Diplomatical envoys from DPRK were present.
